Karin-sama gives Bulma course corrections
until the artificial moon comes into view. Desperate for news
as to whether Gohan is still alive or not, Chichi manages to
beat a "maybe" out of Karin-sama, as the Turtle Hermit reminds
him he said they should not have brought her along.
|
Vegeta begins to
gather enough strength to remove Gohan's tail. Before he can
do it, however, Yajirobe lays into Vegeta across the back with
his katana. Vegeta is injured further, and falls to the ground.
Yajirobe stands gloating over his would-be trophy, but Vegeta
rises again and starts toward him. Unable to connect with his
katana a second time, Yajirobe tries to make up with Vegeta,
saying his attack was meant as a joke but by accident he followed
through. Angry at Yajirobe for having injured him, Vegeta starts
beating him soundly.
|
Goku sees this distraction
as an opportunity. In a last-ditch strategy, he instructs a
dazed Gohan to look up at the artificial moon. Gohan obeys,
and begins his transformation into a giant weremonkey. A panicked
Vegeta tries to prevent the metamorphosis to no avail, and Gohan
begins to run amok. Being half-human, Gohan is ever-so-slightly
more easily reasoned with as a giant monkey than Goku was, and
with Kuririn and Goku cheering him on, he directs his attacks
toward Vegeta.
|
Vegeta
focuses all his energy into staying clear of Gohan long enough
to figure out a way to stop him. None of his efforts even slow
Gohan down, however, until he finds a chance to remove Gohan's
tail with one of his own Kienzans. Vegeta is unable to
get clear of the falling Gohan as he slowly returns to his former
self, and is crushed under Gohan's massive bulk before the reverse
metamorphosis is complete.

This
last blow being more than he could withstand, Vegeta signals
his space pod to retrieve him via a small remote control device.
In the ruins of Metro East, a number of radiation-suited investigators
are gathered around one of the two pods, the only things left
in the city, when it becomes active and flies away. Kuririn
sees it approaching and realizes Vegeta is trying to escape.
Inching himself toward the pod, Vegeta curses for letting himself
be defeated so badly. Visibly limping, Kuririn moves in to finish
Vegeta off with Yajirobe's sword. From the Other Side, Kaio-sama
praises Goku and the others for fighting so valiantly against
evil, but makes a veiled remark about them not eliminating the
worst evil of all.
|
Barely able to move, Vegeta is unable
to defend himself against Kuririn's thrust! However, a telepathic
plea from Goku stops Kuririn just short of Vegeta's ear. As
Vegeta pulls himself inside the pod, Kuririn and Goku argue
over the wisdom of letting him go. Kuririn hopes Goku isn't
thinking Vegeta's heart will soften if he is shown mercy, the
way it worked with Piccolo. Goku agrees that that won't be the
case with Vegeta, but says that seeing him so close to death
makes him think what a waste taking even his life would
be. Besides, Vegeta is the strongest opponent Goku could hope
for, and after some recovery and more training, his own Saiyan
blood yearns for a re-match! Kuririn feels he owes it to Yamucha
and the others to avenge their deaths, but reluctantly allows
Vegeta to go, saying that Goku has saved the earth more than
once already, and he deserves at least this one wish concerning
Vegeta. Watching over the exchange, all Kaio-sama can do is
sigh. Swearing revenge, Vegeta closes the pod and blasts off
into space.
